In 1983 on a frosty New York Day, artist David Hammons set up shop on a sidewalk in East Village, selling snowballs of various sizes. Hammons’ balls set out to poke fun at consumerism, confronting passerbys with the absurdity of purchasing something as fleeting as a snowball.
