On the night of July 20, 1993, a fire broke out in Fulton County Stadium two hours before the Braves were due to host the St. Louis Cardinals. The fire occurred in the stadium press box and was caused by a canned flame used to heat a bain marie.
Fortunately no one was injured and several hours later the game was allowed to start. The Atlanta Braves went on to win the game 8-5 with first baseman Fred McGriff making his debut with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
